| Review: I'm a big fan of the dark shadows of the old show. I like the old range, bloopers and all. I love the cinema of Dark Shadows, and to a lesser extent Dark Night Shadows. I like the 1991 revival series of Dark Shadows. This new Tim Burton / Johnny Depp version, there are some good elements in it, such as costumes, sound and special effects, but the problem here is the written word. The script relies too much on gags, some funny and some pretty lame. The main characters are mostly here with the exception of Maggie Evans mentions in Victoria Winters, and the actor playing Willie Loomis does a better job with the character than it did in 1991, one of the revival, who chose (or was directed) to play a role as a half-white. (One element I did not like about the rebirth). 1970 music, cars, costumes and hairstyles are on target and adds a comfortable feel of the piece in 1970. Culminate all the special effects and a revelation of the plot is so absurd done here it is (unintentionally) funny. Overall, I would say this film more to those who have never seen any of the original version of this for fans of them may appeal. I hate this movie, I just love it too. |
