Review: I saw this film the San Francisco International Film Festival. I usually see two movies a day and was tired after already watch another movie, but Belle woke me up. I liked it. This film would be OK as a total fiction, but as it was based on a true story, I found it fascinating. Set in England in the late 1700s, shows the impact of the slave trade on society. The patriarch of the family is a judge of the High Court of England and take on a major cause of a slave trading ship from facing reality of the constraints faced by the mulatto grandson. It shows that when someone becomes a part of your family and love the person, it changes your perspective on cultural norms. This movie inspired me to look into the history of the actual legal issue involved. The film also showed similarities between his grandchildren whites and mulattos: how women both had a price tag of the head and immediately Because of their lower place in society This film ... has shown that, while much has changed many attitudes have not changed in 300 years ... The two brothers, nephews of the right could have come from any of its films if they have just updated their styles of clothing, hair and accents.
